AV Section

Welcome to Clacton Camera Club’s AV Section Homepage.

We are a small and friendly group that meets every fourth Thursday of the month at the usual Club venue.  In the age of digital photography where we take more images and print less, the audio-visual medium gives us a chance to see more of the excellent images our members take. The aims of the group are to improve both audio-visual and photographic skills in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Any Member of Clacton Camera Club is eligible to attend and contribute as little or as much as they want to.  The programme, although structured, is adaptable to the needs of the members, and ideas for future meetings are always welcome!

Honorary CCC Members, Dorothy and Peter Minter have many years of experience in AV and we were delighted to have them judge the first AV Competition held in March 2006.  The response and quality of the AV’s was amazing, considering the section has only been in existence a year.

Below are a few thoughts from comments made by AV judges.  With all comments made by judges, this list is neither exhaustive nor necessarily correct! The most important critic should be yourself and you should always enjoy what you produce!

Judges’ thoughts for top AV`s

  • Research Your Topic Well
  • If using a Voice-over, have a good script
  • Edit your script so as to let the story flow & not get muddled
  • The use of the 1st person can be quite effective in a story
  • Only pick your best images if possible; be self critical & edit out the poorer ones
  • Try and find “third” images when planning out AV`, to get best dissolves.
  • Some images dictate the pace of the AV, e.g. .Dynamic images = more pace.
  • Match suitable music/soundtrack to the subject.
  • Mix sound well with no obvious breaks.
  • Do not make your AV overlong - 6 to 7 minutes is quite long enough!
  • Grab the audiences attention!
  • Be bold and adventurous - they’ll either love it or hate it !

 Rosie`s Top Tips

  • Watch lots of AV`s- there are loads on line to download or view.
  • Leave a project and come back to it later. You’ll notice problems more then.
  • Re-visit your previous work too. Add newer images and tighten the editing.
  • Listen to all types of music & visit the library (you can order royalty CD`s on line too).
  • Use sound effects appropriately
  • Think up new ways of presentation.
  • Check out these sites for some great AV`s:-
